“The realization of how small I am, as compared to the world unfolding around me, makes me want to let go of everything-”

The Act of Contrasting

Iceland pushes the idea of going the road less traveled to the extreme: Opting to do so means facing Mother Nature’s savage beauty every step of the way. Imagine having to contend with unpredictable weather, where a snowstorm rears its ugly head right in the midst of deep blue sky. I don’t think you’d mind when you’re in an amazingly varied landscape of mountains, volcanoes, and canyons set right beside geysers, glacial lakes, and waterfalls. I, for one, cannot help but open my mouth in awe.

Despite the overwhelming majesty of it all, though, I cannot help but turn inward. The realization of how small I am, as compared to the world unfolding around me, makes me want to let go of everything to sit on the edge of a cliff, to admire the endless ocean rushing towards me.
