Mekong Memoirs

The Mekong makes an unforgettable lover, if you let it. It draws you into the moment. Your breathing is unhurried, ‘cause time is somehow your own and no one else’s.

What’s so captivating about the Mekong River? That’s a question that leaves a lot of people at quite a loss. It’s definitely not the waters. Crystalline? I fear not. But still, I cannot chance upon an answer, even when I return time and again to traverse the same river.

Maybe, it’s in the way the mist settles on the low hills by the banks after a heavy downpour, or in the way the eddies lull you to sleep.

By now, you would have noticed the rainforest that closes in on all sides. It seems inescapable. The view leaves you in awe of nature’s surreal beauty – something that she shows only when you let her be.

Watch the Mekong come alive on a cozy early morning cruise on Mekong Kingdoms Nomad. Better yet, bear witness to the marvelous show of colors the Mekong puts on before it slips into the night, while on a sunset cruise on Luang Prabang’s most gorgeous long boat with Amantaka.
