Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills Collaborates with Suzanne Mooney

Suzanne Mooney

TOKYO (November 21, 2016) – Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills has collaborated with Suzanne Mooney, Irish born artist and photographer whose visual art explores human perceptions of natural and manmade landscapes, to design one-of-a-kind Christmas tree incorporating the panoramic city views from the hotel.

Conceptualizing the Christmas Tree

During Mooney’s first visit to Andaz Tokyo, she was captivated by both the elegant design of the interior space and by the magnificent views of the city. Having researched city-view observatories in Tokyo in the past, Mooney was keen to incorporate the city views from the hotel into the design to create a unique Christmas tree which captures Andaz’s unique “indigenous”, “inspiring” and “unscripted” personality.

About the Christmas Tree

The main imagery for the tree is the city view. The images taken from the windows and exterior spaces of the hotel are combined and built into a three-dimensional form, with a play on light and transparency. The design is constructed using photographic imagery that has been printed onto acrylic panels, using a UV direct printing process. This abstract form can be enjoyed from various angles, as you move around the piece, the play of light highlights and illuminates different panels.

“There is no perfect viewing point, but rather you can play with the form by exploring the space as you spend time in the hotel lobby, or simply pass through the space,” said Suzanne Mooney. “You can choose the viewing angle that creates the most pleasing form for you. Depending on the time of day, the light from outside will also affect the experience. As guests will visit the lobby a number of times during their stay, I hope they will enjoy these variations.”

The piece will be unveiled on Monday, 28 November 2016 in the hotel lobby, followed by an Andaz Salon session starting at 19:00 with guest of honor, Suzanne Mooney.

We were there right about that time, too! Did we run into each other unknowingly? I bet Andaz Tokyo will be posting lots of photos of the Christmas tree on their Instagram. 😉
