We take you to one of our favorite destinations in Asia…Tokyo! Starting with our stay at Hoshino Resorts’ newest property in Tokyo’s Otemachi district, Hoshinoya Tokyo. Arrival at Hoshinoya Tokyo

The arrival lobby at Hoshinoya Tokyo is a sure treat for arriving visitors at the property. You leave your shoes at the Genkan (玄関) or the sunken entryway, similar to a traditional Ryokan (旅館), and you’ll be welcomed by a seasonal centerpiece. It was a few days before Setsubun (節分), or the day before Spring, when we arrived, and the centerpiece comprised of dried sardines (believed to ward off evil spirits with it’s smell), holly (for its pointy leaves), and 福豆 or roasted soybeans that is traditionally thrown out of one’s main door to get rid of bad luck.


A definite highlight of our stay at Hoshinoya Tokyo is our room. Designed by Azuma Architect & Associates, the Kiku room is the top-tier room at the property, and is where tradition meets modernism – with sliding Shoji screens instead of curtains, a low bed that resembles a futon mattress, mirror that turns into a TV, and Tatami Mats!

Hoshinoya Restaurant

The Restaurant at Hoshinoya Tokyo is one of the most exclusive restaurants in the city. And we were more than happy to secure seats as guests of the Ryokan!

For starters, we were given something that’s not on the menu – fish fritters with crackers made if crushed fish bones and charcoal!

One of the highlights of our 3-hour meal is the Ankimo (鮟肝). It’s made with Monkfish liver, rubbed with salt, then rinsed with sake, and garnished beautifully with Yuzu sauce.
